About Us
Our History
GALBRAITH traces its roots back to 1964 when Gary E. Galbraith’s brother started a construction company called Universal Building and Leasing. After serving six years in the United States Air Force, Gary began working for Universal Construction in 1967. He began as a draftsman and later was promoted to site superintendent.
In 1971, Gary purchased the business from his brother and changed the name to Universal Construction Co., Inc. The next 19 years helped plant the seeds for what would become GALBRAITH Commercial & Industrial Construction.
From 1971 to 1990, Universal grew rapidly and was extremely successful. Gary sold the business in 1990 intending to retire—that retirement was short-lived, however.
Loyal customers continued to call him requesting his high-quality, reliable general contracting services.
As a result, Gary opened GALBRAITH later in 1990, as a one-man operation. The company immediately began growing into the in-demand general contractor it has become today.

Our Services
GALBRAITH works as a general contractor across Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region. We also perform design-build construction, commercial concrete services, building maintenance, tenant fit-outs, and Butler® metal building design and erection services.
Most of our work comes through negotiated contracts, where we partner with clients early on to provide pre-construction services and work with them the entire time through project completion.
Our process typically starts with sitting down with the owner to understand their goals, then assembling a trusted team of design professionals and subcontractors to guide the project from concept and permitting, through construction, all the way to completion and occupancy.
We also support clients with things like site selection, land acquisition, planning, site development, tax abatement, financing, and lease options — whatever it takes to help them move forward with confidence.
Over the years, we’ve brought our design-build expertise to a wide range of projects, including food processing plants, medical and pharmaceutical facilities, cold storage, retail spaces, office buildings, faith-based centers, multi-family developments, and non-profits.
