Galbraith/Pre-Design, Inc. has completed another substantial project for a long-term client, Zeigler Bros., Inc. Adding a 10,000+ sq. ft. pre-engineered clear span building to the Ziegler warehouse and shipping department, Galbraith coordinated with Zeigler to accommodate their busy shipping and loading schedules, as they required production to continue throughout the remodeling process. Because shipping needed to continue, the building had to be constructed in halves, which meant ensuring the first half of the building was complete and ready to handle shipping before the second half could be started.

In addition to dealing with weather and scheduling, Galbraith also had to handle working with a pre-engineered metal building system which spanned both halves of the existing warehouse and shipping department. “We had to coordinate with their loading and shipping departments to not only complete the first half initially, but also prepare the majority of the second half footers and foundations to accept the steel building, as part of our first half construction,” said Mark Galbraith, co-owner of Galbraith/Pre-Design, Inc.

The project was completed despite challenges such as the old building being out of square, the necessity of reinforcing adjoining buildings to handle the increased snow load caused by the new building, and the necessity of relocating guy wires, which created structural considerations when installing new anchor points. Also, as Zeigler Bros. is an SQF-certified facility, it was imperative that Galbraith use their HACCP and SQF knowledge to determine the proper materials and methods to use during construction.

The building was completed on schedule and adhering to the needs and demands of Zeigler Bros., Inc., due to the solid communication between Galbraith’s construction coordinators and the Zeigler team. Galbraith has enjoyed working with Zeigler on projects since the 1980s.
